Luke Albert Combs is an American country singer and songwriter. He was born on March 2, 1990 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Combs started taking vocal lessons at a very young age. In high school, he played football and was part of multiple singing groups. He went to college in his home state of North Carolina, studying business. In his college years, he worked as a bouncer at a bar, while also performing early versions of a Luke Combs concert for the patrons occasionally. However, he dropped out of university only a few months before graduation, and moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in country music. His biggest idol admittedly has always been Garth Brooks.
At age 24, he produced his first EP (Extended Play), then made his second one within the same year. In 2015, he released his debut single, “Hurricane”. It peaked at the #46 spot on Billboard’s country music singles chart and sold around 15,000 copies - not a bad start for the young country singer from North Carolina. As a result, he signed a deal with Sony Music Nashville, and his first single was remastered and re-released by the major country music label Columbia Nashville in 2016.
Combs’ debut album came out in June 2017, with the title “This One’s For You”. It became a massive hit, topping Billboard’s country music album chart, and peaking at the #4 spot on the overall Billboard 200 chart. In the same year, he went on his first nationwide Luke Combs concert tour.
Since then, Combs has released two more full studio albums, thus he has 3 in total. The best selling one among them so far has remained his first one, “This One’s For You” from 2017, which sold 600,000 copies in the US. Meanwhile, the latest new Luke Combs album came out in June 2022, titled “Growin' Up”. His biggest hits to date are the aforementioned “Hurricane” (2016), “Beautiful Crazy” (2017), “When It Rains It Pours” (also 2017), and “Beer Never Broke My Heart” (2019).
