Evanescence is an American rock band founded in 1994 by singer and keyboardist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody in Little Rock, Arkansas. The band's music genre can be characterized as a blend of alternative rock, gothic rock, and symphonic metal, often incorporating haunting melodies and poignant lyrics.

During Lee's childhood and teenage years, her musical tastes were influenced by a variety of genres. She was into classical music, film scores by Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer, alternative music, grunge, hard rock, industrial music, death metal, groove metal, as well as electronica artists like Bjork and Portishead.

The band rose to fame following the release of their debut album, "Fallen," in 2003, which achieved immense commercial success and critical acclaim. Featuring iconic tracks such as "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal," the album propelled Evanescence to the forefront of the rock music scene, earning them Grammy Awards and multi-platinum certifications. Their unique fusion of rock and orchestral elements, coupled with Amy Lee's mesmerizing vocal delivery, established them as a prominent force in the music industry.

Since the beginning of Evanescence, Lee has been the main songwriter. Musically, the band has been led by Lee, starting as a duo partnership where Lee and the lead guitarist wrote the music until the self-titled third album. This third album marked a shift, being the first one written by the entire band. From then on, Evanescence has been a collaborative effort, with Lee and the rest of the band working together to write and blend their music.
