Formed in Falun, Sweden, Sabaton is a legendaryheavy metal band respected by the metal community worldwide. Sabaton follows a very unique and different style, their lyrics talk about historical moments and battles from medieval times. Sabaton is considered by metal fans as one of the "big four" heavy metal bands, along with Helloween, Blind Guardian, and DragonForce, or if you prefer, the "medieval big four."
Formed in 1999, the band first signed a deal with Underground Symphony. They released a promotional CD called "Fist for Fight" worldwide. This CD was made from two demo tapes recorded between 1999 and 2000. Its purpose was to promote Sabaton's upcoming releases.
In 2006 things were already going well for the band, that year Sabaton went on tour with Edguy and DragonForce. Their third album, "Attero Dominatus," came out in Europe that year. One year later, in 2007, Sabaton released "Metalizer" as a double disc along with "Fist for Fight." This release included the previously unreleased song "Birds of War."
In 2012, most of Sabaton's members left the band. Only Joakim Brodén and Pär Sundström remained. New members joined, and the former members formed a new band called Civil War. In November 2012, drummer Robban Bäck stepped back from touring to be with his newborn. Snowy Shaw filled in briefly before Hannes Van Dahl took over in November 2013. Van Dahl had previously worked as Shaw's drum tech and played for Evergrey.
Sabaton is frequently labeled as a power metal band by music critics and fans, recognized as a significant presence in the power metal genre since the mid-2000s. However, the band has typically avoided this classification, preferring to see themselves as a distinct style of heavy metal.
