La Sonora Dinamita Concerts Setlist

La Sonora Dinamita is a Colombian cumbia band. They were formed in 1960 in Cartagena, Colombia. It was founded by vocalist and composer Lucho Argaín (born in 1927 in Cartagena, Colombia, passed away in 2002), pianist Ladislao "Lalo" Orozco, drummer Clodomiro Montes, trumpeteers Saúl Torres and Ángel Mattos, bassist Pedro Laza, guitarist Guillermo Martínez, tres player Gil Cantillo, percussionist Enrique Bonfante Castilla, and backup vocalists Poli and “Mono” Martínez.

However, the band was completely dismantled in 1963, with the musicians seeking solo careers instead. In 1977, La Sonora Dinamita was reformed, after being rediscovered by the record label Discos Fuentes, the same company that produced their first album.

Their debut album came out in 1960, with the title “Ritmo!”. They put out 3 more studio albums during their first stint as a band. After their return, their LP “El Meneito” became a huge success, especially in Mexico. La Sonora Dinamita has remained very popular in the Central American country, and the band is very grateful for that in return. They even dedicated multiple songs, such as “El Lagunero” (1985), and “A Guanajuato Me Voy” (1986) to the country of Mexico. The very first La Sonora Dinamita concert outside their home country of Colombia was also played in Mexico City, in 1979. The band later also got to perform in one of the most famous music venues in the world, Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York in the US.

Their founder and frontman Lucho Argaín sadly passed away in 2002. However, that did not stop the La Sonora Dinamita, who are still going strong. Their current lead singer is Charlie Alvarez.

The Colombian musical ensemble has put out a total of 73 (!) albums during their long and prolific career. The latest new La Sonora Dinamita album is “Dinamitazos Chilangos” from August 2004. They have sold about 40 to 50 million copies of their albums, accumulated over the years.
