Harley Edward Streten, better known by his stage name Flume, is an Australian DJ and music producer. He was born on November 5, 1991 in Sydney, Australia. Flume was born into a wealthy family with a filmmaker-record producer father. He started making his own music with a DJ software at age 11. In 2010, at age 19, he released two house tracks, "Flow" and "Fizz", under the stage name “HEDS” (his initials).
In 2011, he placed second in a music composition contest run by the Australian record company Future Classic. As a result, Future Classic founder Nathan McLay became his manager and helped create his debut EP (Extended Play) that year. This was when he changed his stage name to “Flume”, based on a 2007 song by the American indie folk band “Bon Iver” of the same name.
His self-titled debut album, “Flume”, came out in November 2012. It became a massive hit, topping the ARIA albums chart in his homeland of Australia. It also reached the #13 spot on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart in the US. As a result, he got to go on his first nationwide Flume concert tour as a headlining act, the “Infinity Prism Tour” in 2013.
Since then, the Aussie DJ has released two more albums, thus he has 3 in total. The best selling one among them is “Skin” from May 2016, which sold around 570,000 copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the latest new Flume album came out in May 2022, with the title “Palaces”.
The biggest hits in the Flume setlist to date are “Sleepless” (2012) featuring Jezzabell Doran, “Never Be Like You” (2016) featuring Kai, and “Say It” (also 2016) featuring Tove Lo, He’s also produced popular remixes, such as one of the 2013 Lorde song “Tennis Court” in 2014, and one of the 2013 song by Disclosure“You & Me” in 2013.
