From heavy metal to EDM, Big Day Out, also known as BDO, is a very eclectic music festival held in Sydney, Australia. The festival's first edition was in 92, competing with Lollapalooza Chicago which debuted in 91. The event's founders are Ken West and Vivian Lees, and its first edition had bands like Nirvana headlining it.
Because the event became more and more popular, they sometimes added an extra show in Sydney. This happened first in 2004 because Metallica was hugely popular, and again in 2010 when Muse was the main act. In 2011, they added another Sydney date because Tool and Rammstein were co-headlining.
Before, the festival took place in five cities in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide, and Perth, as well as in Auckland, New Zealand. It usually happened during the summer months, mostly in January each year, though in some cities like Perth, it might have been as late as early February.
As the event is held during summer, remember to always keep yourself hydrated, and take a look at our tips section, as you might find something some useful tips to make the best out of this experience.
