2023 Billboard Music Awards Nominees Announced

Taylor Swift has been nominated in 20 (!) different categories, so she has a chance to catch up with Drake in terms of both the most awards won all-time (34) and the most awards won in one night (13) as well.

The 2023 Billboard Music Awards, presented by Marriott Bonvoy, is set to take place on Sunday, November 19th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. With the ceremony less than a month away, we know the full list of all the nominees in all the categories.

It comes as a surprise to no-one that Taylor Swift had a wonderful year. Her 2022 record “Midnights” remained in the top 10 on the famous Billboard 200 chart well into 2023 - in fact, it’s still sitting there, over a year after its release, at the respectable #6 spot. Perhaps the most memorable track off of that record is “Anti-Hero”, needless to say, a certified chart-topper. “T-Swizzle” is nominated in 20 (!) different categories, so she has a chance to break Drake’s record for the most Billboard Awards won in one night. The Canadian hip hop star went home with 13 awards in 2017.

He too is nominated in a number of categories this year as well, including Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist. In three of these contests, he will be competing with Taylor Swift directly (evidently, not in the Top Male Artist one). Meanwhile, Swift is among the nominees in the Top Female Artist category - also quite evidently.

Another musician whose name comes up often, and thus had a wonderful year on the charts, is none other than Tennessee-native country music star Morgan Wallen. His big hit album is actually from this year: the country-pop record “One Thing at a Time” came out in March of this year, and quickly climbed to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. It was actually the one to knock Swift’s “Midnights” off of the #1 spot.

Wallen is among the most “hyped” Top Artist category’s nominees, along with the aforementioned Drake and Taylor Swift, as well as SZA and Luke Combs. SZA came out with the hit single “Snooze” in late 2022, then followed it up with another banger, “Kill Bill” soon after. Luke Combs’ biggest recent hit was “Love You Anyway” from February 2023. One award these A-listers cannot compete for is the one for Top New Artist. There, Bailey Zimmerman, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Peso Pluma, and Zach Bryan are in the running.

As for the most all-time Billboard Award wins, Drake is in the lead with 34 titles (he is also the current holder of the Top Artist award, having won it last year). However, Taylor Swift has a decent chance of catching up to him with her boatload of nominations - she’s just 5 awards shy from “Champagne Papi” with 29. Justin Bieber is third on the list with 26 wins, but he is the only one of the top 3 to not be nominated in any categories this year, thus he has no chance of adding to his tally.
