Amy Lee of Evanescence Claims 50 Cent Still “Hates Her Guts” For 2004 Grammy Snub

Before Kanye West walked on stage to ruin Taylor Swift’s award acceptance at the 2009 MTV Music Video Awards and proclaim that Beyoncé should have won, a similar, although not as dramatic incident took place at the 2004 Grammys that most music fans have already forgotten most likely - but, apparently, not the parties involved.

2003 saw the breakout of new American hip hop star 50 Cent. His debut album “Get Rich or Die Tryin'” topped the Billboard 200 chart in the US, and sold over 10 million copies worldwide in its first year. With such classic jams as “In da Club” and “P.I.M.P.", “Fiddy” felt real confident going for the Best New Artist award at the 2004 Grammys - perhaps a little too confident.

When it was revealed that instead of him, it was the rock band Evanescence out of Little Rock, Arkansas, who came out with their debut album “Fallen” the same year, that was awarded the Grammy in his category, 50 Cent couldn’t really contain himself. He went on stage while lead singer Amy Lee was on the mic trying to give an acceptance speech. She got a little flustered when she saw 50 Cent go on stage - however, the rapper did not say a word, he just walked right off while gesturing his disbelief to the camera.

That was almost 20 years ago now. Recently, however, Amy Lee spoke to the Daily Beast about the incident, and had this to say:

"50 Cent hates my guts. It’s just one of those things… I mean, truthfully, we thought he was going to win too. It was such a wild night. People are like, ‘What was it like to win a Grammy?’ and I’m like, ‘Stressful!’"

Thankfully, “Fiddy” only had to wait until 2010 to get his much-coveted first Grammy. Then, he won in the Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group category for his involvement in the 2009 track “Crack a Bottle” by fellow rappers Eminem and Dr. Dre. Meanwhile, Evanescence is still “stuck” at the two Grammys they won in 2003, and have exactly half the nominations overall (7) of those of 50 Cent (14). Despite all that, it seems “Fiddy” still just can’t let the grave injustice go…
