Trendy Artists of the Week: Taylor Swift, Marco Mengoni, Travis Scott, Anish Kumar, Shania Twain

Here's more music industry news for you, another one of our weekly round-up of stories about the most popular artists on our website this past week.
Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift Sells Out Six Nights in a Row at SoFi Stadium

This is Taylor Swift’s world, we are all just living in it. She currently has 3 of her albums in Billboard 200’s top 10, and her tour continues to be a smash hit as well. What is a better testament to that than the fact that she managed to sell out six nights in a row in Inglewood's SoFI Arena - a venue that can hold over 100,000 people! There were plenty of A-list celebs present among the over half a million (!) people who attended in total, such as actresses Cameron Diaz and Amy Adams, and actor Channing Tatum.

If you live in the US and want some of the Swift live show experience for yourself, her next dates in the country are booked for October, at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium. In the meantime, “T-Swizzle” is hitting the international road, visiting Europe, Australia, and Singapore.

Marco Mengoni Releases New Album “Materia (Prisma)”

As for trending European artists, we got Marco Mengoni from Italy for you. The 34-year-old pop singer just released his new album titled “Materia (Prisma)”. It’s the 8th record in his discography in total, and the 3rd one in the “Materia” series, the first two being “Materia (Terra)” from 2021 and “Materia (Pelle)” from 2022. Here’s one of the tracks off of his latest record, linked below for your listening pleasure. “Due Vite” was also Italy’s entry into the Eurovision 2023 contest.

Travis Scott Return on the Road For the First Time Since Astroworld Tragedy

Travis Scott

While this is good news for music fans, it also has plenty of sad connotations as well. Hip hop artist Travis Scott is going on tour again, with his first show being scheduled for September 25th in Chicago, Illinois.

What’s sad about that? Well, last time Scott was on stage at a major venue was in November 2021 at the Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas, where commotion in the audience led to 10 people being crushed to death by the crowd. Controversially, Scott did not stop the concert even after attendees yelled at him to do so as the situation turned dire. We can only hope that the “Sicko Mode” star and his team has learned A LOT from that experience and has ample safety measures in place for his next show.

Anish Kumar Profiled By The Guardian

Two weeks ago, we saw flutist Claire Chase get some (belated) traction after The New York Times ran a nice profile piece on her. This week, we saw the same thing happen to another lesser-known artist, British-Indian electronic musician Anish Kumar, who was the subject of another article by an established mainstream publication, The Guardian this time.

Shania Twain Gets Tribute From Husband on Instagram

This is a nice, wholesome moment from the music world: Canadian country-pop star Shania Twain got a nice “shoutout” from her husband of 12 years Frédéric Thiébaud. In an Instagram story, he shared with the world how proud he is of her wife for being ranked #5 on Pollstar’s most popular artists list, ranked based on average ticket sales of the past 30 days. It’s always good to see a supporting spouse!
