Top10 Worldwide Music Selection From Concerty - August 2023

The last month of summer hits has come to an end as well. Here's our monthly rundown of what has been popular in which neck of the woods last month - August this time.

Doja Cat - Paint the Town Red (UNITED STATES)

American singer-rapper superstar Doja Cat’s new album is due to come out later this month. It’s the fourth one in her discography, titled “Scarlet” or alternative titled “First of All”, over two years after her smash hit record “Planet Her” from June 2021, which reached #2 on Billboard 200.

How well can her new record do? Quite well, if the success of her most recent single “Paint the Town Red” is any indication, which was a major hit among American Spotify listeners. Doja Cat comes on the hip hop track with her sassy attitude, both in lyrics and flow, over a smooth, laid-back, but somewhat repetitive beat made by producer Earl On The Beat. We linked it below so you can take a listen and judge for yourself - hope you’re not offended by some devilish imagery in the music video…

Dzsúdló - KERINGŐ (Hungary)

Next we go to Hungary for another hip hop artist, Dzsúdló (which, by the way, is the Hungarian phonetic transcription of the name of famous British actor Jude Law). His new track “KERINGŐ” performed very well locally. This one is a sad love song, which kind of comes across even if you don’t understand Hungarian lyrics, so you can listen to it if you’re in that mood.

Da Muziqal Chef - Sgudi Sync feat. De Mthuda, Eemoh (SOUTH AFRICA)

Meanwhile all the way down in South Africa, a local DJ with the catchy stage Da Muziqal Chef was cooking up the goods. He got some help from his fellow South African EDM artist De Mthuda, as well as vocalists Eemoh and Sipho Magudulela. In their combined effort, they put together the hit new single “Sgudi Sync”.

Kontra K - Summertime feat. Lana Del Rey (GERMANY)

While Lana Del Rey may not be at the zenith of her career, she is still a major player in the music industry with 14.5 million YouTube subscribers and 56.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Now, a whole new market can get better acquainted with her music in Germany, thanks to local rapper Kontra K who decided to remix Del Rey’s 2012 hit “Summertime Sadness”. The remix is simply titled “Summertime”. Kontra K is rapping in German over the beat mixed from the American art pop singer’s song.

Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For? (NEW ZEALAND)

Here’s another A-list music star from the US for you, Billie Eilish. She’s showing off her more emotional, poetic side as opposed to the rebellious teenager character we saw, for example, in her biggest hit to date “bad guy” in 2019. This is a soft piano ballad - which was written for, in a surprising turn, the soundtrack of the summer blockbuster Barbie movie.

The music video matches the song’s style. It is just one continuous shot of Eilish in front of a small desk, sitting in a chair. It also ends on like 20 seconds of black screen for some odd reason. The new Eilish cut has been very popular in many English-speaking countries, including New Zealand.

Lartiste - Zarzour (MOROCCO)

Moroccan hip hop artist Lartiste has been living in France since 7 years old. However, that doesn’t mean that music fans in his home country have given up on him. His new track “Zarzour” was charting high all last month among Moroccan Spotify users, while with French listeners, not so much. Evidently, this has a lot to do with the fact that the lyrics are in Arabic, not French...

Kuumaa - Tässä on kaikki (FINLAND)

The Finnish boy band Kuumaa has been on the music scene for quite a while now. By 2016, the year they were founded, they were already signed by Universal Music Group. It took them 3 years to put out their first full studio album after them, but they have been confidently chugging along ever since. Their latest track to make quite a big splash in their home country is “Tässä on kaikki”.

Jasleen Royal - Heeriye feat. Arijit Singh (INDIA)

After a song from the Barbie movie soundtrack, here’s some other music related to a children’s story. This one is about Prince Charming who visits a girl in dreamland who is dreaming about him. It’s beautifully sung and composed by Jasleen Royal and Arijit Singh. We hope you enjoy listening to it below.

SIRA - 9 bis 9 feat. Bausa & badchieff (AUSTRIA)

In the middle of Europe, in Austria, local artist SIRA ended the summer with a real seasonal hit. The hip hop track also features German rappers Bausa and badchieff, as well as plenty of summer vibes to remember the summer of 2023 for.

Karol G - Mi Ex Tenía Razón (COLOMBIA)

Karol G is one of those musical artists from Latin America who rose to international superstardom while keep writing songs in their native language. Case and point, Karol G’s latest record “Mañana Será Bonito” from February of this year ended up topping the famous Billboard 200 chart in the US. And the Colombian reggaeton singer wasn’t done just yet for the year: her brand new single “Mi Ex Tenía Razón”, released last month, is also a major international hit. She has really been on fire lately!
